Immigration Museum Tokyo: Experiencing Different Cultures through Art Individuals from the Philippines MAKILALA: to Know, Meet and Dance
Photo: Ryohei Tomita
Adachi ward is the largest region of the Tokyo 23 wards in terms of Filipino population. In the Philippines, 90% of the citizen is said to be Catholic. On Sundays, more than hundred people gather at the church in Umejima.
After the mass, the place is filled with songs, dances and all varieties of food, and merry voices of chattering fly through the air. But we hardly have a chance to know about their daily lives or what they are usually feeling while living in Japan.
MAKILALA means “to get to know” in Filipino language.
Why don’t you meet each and every one of them through our three programs of video installation, interactive workshops and the Filipino-style party?
